First day is always the easiest

In the spur of a moment, I decided I would run/ walk ( ralk?) 6 kilometres daily. The first day was a piece of cake, and I wondered why people find working out so hard. Day 2 was harder. And after a week, whenever the morning was slightly colder than usual, I was reaching for my blanket instead of my shoes. The initial joy of walking wore out faster than my pair of socks and now it was dreadful to walk to the same music along the same route looking at the same faces. Even the dogs had gotten so used to me. They barely open their eyes from their deep slumber to look at me.

So I tried to encourage myself. I bought new t-shirts and pants to push myself out of the bed. And it worked. A simple variety in clothing options could make my workout happier. But trust me it wears out too. And I could not afford to buy more workout clothes.

So I had to come up with hacks to trick my mind into enjoying the workout. The post workout glow and satisfaction of sweating through your shirt is a pretty good reason to workout but the sleep devil is too smart to be tricked by them. I switch up the route atleast once a week, just so I could see different faces and dogs.

Another thing that really helped improve my timing and endurance was a playlist of cringy, popular songs with a fast tempo. If they have horrible misogynistic lyrics, it’s all the more better. I have to admit that my best time was while running to a Hip Hop Tamizha playlist.

But like no one ever said, all is fair in running and love. Whatever helps you get out of bed, do it!
